Course Aims

  • To enable the student to understand and appreciate all legal issues relating  to company formation, management,  corporate governance and business decisions and be able to apply them in real situation.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course the student should have the ability to:

  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities of Company Directors
  • Appreciate the difference between Company ownership and Management
  • Deal with liquidation, amalgamations and capital restructuring 
  • Explain the rights and duties attached to the employer-employee relationship.
  • Outline the principal legislative acts affecting the employer-employee relationship.
  • Describe the creation, obligations and termination of principle-agent relationships.
  • Discuss third-party liability in the context of principle-agent, and employer-employee relationships.
  • List and describe the forms of sole proprietorship and partnership.
  • Outline the areas of government regulation of business and describe how they are enforced.
  • Explain basic legal concepts of property, including acquisition, forms of ownership, and restrictions on use.
  • Describe types of tenancy and the nature and elements of a lease.
  • Describe the process of buying and selling real property and transfer of title.
  • Define and explain the requirements and creation of bailments.
  • Describe the specific types, rights and responsibilities attached to bailments.
  • Define and describe the elements of property and personal insurance.
  • Outline and discuss regulations concerning consumer protection.
  • Outline and discuss regulations concerning borrower and creditor protection.
  • Analyze and interpret case facts involving issues in business law and determine appropriate legal remedies.
